Abstract
This study aims to examine the actantial schema and functional structure in the short story Al-Kadzāb wa al-Mar’ah al-Barī’ah by Ibnul Yemeen. The method employed is descriptive-analytic. The approach used is A. J. Greimas’s narrative semiotics, with a focus on actantial and functional analysis. The data consists of text related to actantial and functional structures. The data source of this research is a website that provides a collection of short stories. Data were collected by reading and closely observing the entire narrative sequence, character roles, dialogues, and the order of events that appear in the short story. The data analysis technique was carried out by first mapping the six actantial functions, followed by analyzing the functional structure. The results of the study indicate that this short story possesses a complete actantial schema and functional structure. It is expected that this research will provide readers with a better understanding of actantial and functional aspects in this short story.
