Abstract
This research explores the use of slang by Generation Z in their interactions on the social media platform Instagram. The slang used reflects social dynamics and group identities formed through digital communication. The aim of this research is to identify various forms of slang and to understand the social functions and meanings embedded in its use. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with a sociolinguistic approach. Data were obtained through participatory observation and documentation of posts and comments on Instagram accounts owned by Generation Z teenagers. The findings of this research reveal that the language used by teenagers on social media, particularly Instagram, is highly dynamic and showcases diverse forms of linguistic creativity. This includes the use of Gen Z-specific lexical items, code-mixing, phonological wordplay, and the creation of new terms that reflect digital culture and popular trends. The research demonstrates that social media serves as a crucial space for the development and preservation of non-standard language forms that are dynamic and contextual.
