Simbol dan Makna Walassuji dalam Adat Pernikahan Masyarakat Bugis
Abstract
Konsep Walassuji ditempatkan secara horizontal dengan dunia tengah. Masyarakat Bugis memandang dunia sebagai sebuah kesempurnaan yang meliputi empat persegi penjuru mata angin, yaitu timur, barat, utara, selatan. Secara makro, alam semesta adalah satu kesatuan yang tertuang dalam sebuah simol aksara Bugis-Makassar, yaitu, „sa‟ yang berarti seua artinya tunggal atau Esa. Begitu pula secara mikro, manusia adalah sebuah kesatuan yang diwujudkan dalam sulapa’ eppa. Berawal dari mulut manusia segala sesuatu dinyatakan, diaplikasikan, dalam perbuatan, dan mewujudkan gambaran jati diri manusia. Walasuji selain digunakan sebagai pagar atau baruga yang biasanya dilihat depan rumah mempelai. Walasuiji juga dapat digunakan sebagai wadah buah dalam hajatan pernikahan, juga digunakan sebagai wadah sesajen yang beriisikan makanan yang telah diolah lalu diberikan kepada dewata Walasuiji juga dapat digunakan sebagai wadah buah dalam hajatan pernikahan, juga digunakan sebagai wadah sesajen yang beriisikan makanan yang telah diolah lalu diberikan kepada dewata. Walasuji sebagai pagar bambu dalam acara pernikahan dan berbentuk belah ketupat atau sulapa eppa yang merupakan bentuk mistis kepercayaan Bugis-Makassar klasik yang menyimbolkan susunan semesta seperti, api, air, angin, tanah. Kemudian metode pengumpulan data, yakni observasi dan wawancara, selanjutnya melakukan interpretasi data
