Digitalisasi dan Pelestarian Mushaf Al-Qur'an Kuno dalam Upaya Mempertahankan Warisan Islam di Museum Sejarah Al-Qur’an Sumatera Utara
Abstract
Ancient manuscripts are valuable heritage that preserve important records of the history of the Qur'an and the development of Arabic script throughout the history of Islamic civilization. However, the increasingly fragile physical condition of the manuscripts due to age and storage environment poses a major challenge to their preservation. The Qur'an History Museum, as a public service institution providing education and preservation of Islamic culture, plays a strategic role in maintaining the sustainability of historical manuscript collections. Digitization has emerged as an effective solution for securing historical documents while increasing public accessibility to these materials. This article discusses the importance of the digitization process of ancient manuscripts in the context of Islamic preservation. Through a literature study approach and field observations, this research found that digitization serves not only as a preservation medium but also as a means to introduce intellectual property. The results show that the appropriate implementation of digitization can bridge the gap between written tradition and the demands of the modern era without eliminating the authentic value of the original manuscripts. Thus, the North Sumatra Qur'an History Museum can continue to fulfill its function as an institution preserving and educating Islamic culture in a sustainable manner.
