Multikultural Budaya: Mengungkap Sistem Pemberian Mahar Pernikahan Etnis Batak Mandailing dan Minangkabau
Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses pemberian mahar dan pelaksanaan pernikahan pada pasangan suami istri yang berasal dari etnis berbeda, khususnya antara perempuan etnis Batak Mandailing dan laki-laki etnis Minangkabau, serta untuk mengungkap bagaimana kedua belah pihak menyelaraskan perbedaan adat dalam praktik pernikahan mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan pendekatan induktif. Lokasi penelitian di Medan Area, Sumatera Utara, dengan subjek pasangan etnis Batak Mandailing dan Minangkabau yang telah menikah. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara terstruktur, dokumentasi, dan studi kepustakaan untuk menganalisis sistem pemberian mahar dalam pernikahan multikultural. Penelitian melibatkan empat pasangan multietnis Mandailing–Minangkabau di Medan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa mahar selalu diberikan oleh pihak laki-laki, menandakan dominasi nilai agama dalam praktik pernikahan. Adat hanya diterapkan secara simbolik, seperti penggunaan busana tradisional. Kompromi budaya terjadi untuk menjaga harmoni antar keluarga dalam pernikahan lintas etnis. Pernikahan multietnik Mandailing–Minangkabau lebih menekankan nilai Islam, dengan mahar diberikan oleh pihak laki-laki. Tradisi Minangkabau seperti uang japuik tidak diterapkan. Adat ditampilkan secara simbolik melalui pakaian, bukan prosesi. Kesepakatan keluarga dan penghormatan identitas budaya dijalankan secara parsial untuk menjaga harmoni dalam pernikahan.
